- Alta Vista search
site According to Digital Equipment Corporation, the AltaVista database
contained 17 billion words from more than 32 million Web pages at last
count--and it keeps growing. That's impressive, but newer rivals index even
more pages. Still, it's blazing fast and deservedly popular.
- Einet Galaxy
- Excite If you can't find it in
Excite's more than 50 million pages, it probably isn't on the Web. Find popular

- HotBot Run by Inktomi and Wired
Ventures, this extremely comprehensive Web index has a superb interface once
you get past the sickening lime-green screen. Besides searches, you can
restrict results to certain types of media files. Chose HotBot if you're in a
hurry--it's superfast.
- Infoseek Claims to be the
fastest, most accurate index around, with more than 50 million pages indexed.
We were impressed with it's capability to process plain-English questions in
lieu of keywords and proper names. It's a great alternative to Boolean syntax.
- LinkStar
